France Class - Summer 1 Term
In term 5, we have been growing our own frogs after we discovered frogspawn in our school pond. As part of Understanding of the World we have encouraged children to make close observations, notice change and ask simple questions. We have been finding out facts about frogspawn and tadpoles on the website and in non-fiction books.
Home-School Learning –
We ask parents to read story books regularly to their children at home (at least twice a week) and we will hold book swap sessions from 2:55 – 3:10pm every Friday so children and parents can change their sharing books each week.
When your child starts phonics (learning letters and sounds), there will be sounds to practise at home. Please come and speak to us if you are unsure how to say the sound – and try to remember not to put an ‘uh’ on the end of the sounds e.g ‘b’ (short sound) not b-uh!
We may also send some name cards home so your child can practise writing their name, if they can’t already do so– and if they can, to practise the correct formation of letters.
Counting underpins all of the number learning in Reception year, so ask your child to count everything and anything! Also, help them to find numbers in the everyday environment, such as on road signs, at the checkouts in supermarkets, on car registration plates, on house doors etc.
Your child will be selected to have the maths bag for the week, which includes different games and jigsaws to support their maths learning. The children will be excited to be chosen and it is important that you make time to play the games with your child. Please write in the book to say which games have been played at home. May we ask that children are supervised when playing these games and that all the pieces are put back in the box ready for he next child. Thank you for your cooperation.
Important messages –
We will start adult-led PE sessions this term and this will be on a Thursday morning. Your child will need a pair of black shorts and a white t-shirt in a PE bag on their pegs to stay in school until the end of term. Daps are not necessary.
We will be going to Forest School on alternate Fridays so please can your child have wellies and a change of clothes in school for that day for this half term. Thank you!
Thursday 24th May is our provisional date for Sports Day this year.
Thank you for your continued support.
